|2018 WORLD HYDROGRAPHY DAY|
The World Hydrography Day celebration was adopted in 2005 and was generally welcomed by the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution A/RES/60/30 Oceans and the Law of the Sea. The date chosen therefore is the annivarsary of the founding of the Intenational Hydrographic Organization. The aim of the celebration is to give suitable publicity to IHO's work at all levels and of increasing the coverage of hydrographic information on a global basis. Nigeria being a member state joins other member states to annually commemorate the WHD scheduled for 21 June.
The Theme of WHD 2018 is "Bathymetry-The Foundation for sustainable Seas, Oceans and Waterways".

Interested presenters are requested to submit papers for the underlisted topics:
- Bathymetry-Effective tool for the safety of Navigation in Nigeria.
- Modern Technology for improved hydrographic survey accuracy.
- Hydrographic survey data management in Nigeria.
Registration is open to the general public to reserve seats at the venue. Early registration will enable the secretariat to prepare certificates of participation and it saves prospective attendees the stress of queueing at the venue of the conference.Click here to register.
Elections into elective post will also be conducted at the 2018 Annual General Meeting to be held at the same venue of the WHD conference and elligible members are invited to participate in the election as candidates or voters.The following provisos are to be fulfilled to participate in the forth coming election:
- Candidate must be an active member in his/her zone
- Candidate must be financially up-to-date with fee payments
- Evidence of formal training in hydrography
